abdominal pain umbilical area
what would you do in this situation?
I was in excruciating abdominal pain last week – I went to the ER and the doctor told me I had an umbilical hernia. I asked him for antibiotics because I felt that the area was red, he said they wouldn’t help and sent me home. The following few days my entire abdomen became swollen and the pain tripled (unable to even walk without assistance) . I went back to the ER and found out I do not have a hernia and that I have an abdominal infection. They put me on strong antibiotics to clear up the infection. In my opinion if the first doctor had paid attention to the situation and given me antibiotics I would have been spared several days of the worst pain of my life. So my question is: do you think I should say something to the doctor or the patient advocate for the hospital so the doctor realizes the seriousness of his poor patient care – or am I just being cranky because of all I have been through and I should just keep it to myself?
That’s grounds for a malpractice law suit, if you so wanted it to be. But you should at least say something to the high ups, because if he made that mistake once he could make it again, but on someone who might end up with a worse condition than you. Don’t keep it to yourself, I would say something.
