had midwife appointment yesterday and im 17 weeks and 3 days pregnant….?

im slightly showing and i said to the midwife that my bump has come out slightly she said it cant be yet and that its probably just me ie. my fat tummy lol….im 5’6 and size 14….i put weight on since i got married….i know its my bump, why did she have to make that comment??
i then asked her if she will weigh me to check if ive put weight on etc, i thought its natural to gain SOME weight in pregnancy! anyways she said that i should be “concerned” if i put weight on at this stage….! i still think its natural to gain some weight……….whats the truth??
also, hubby and i went out for meal on our wedding anniversary and during main course i had really bad pains on my right lower abdominal……….and it only calmed down and went away after good 10 mins and some walking! what could this have been?? my midwife said gas, but i know when its gas and i didnt burp or fart then feel better…….i dont like my community midwife! can u change? im in the uk..

Midwives often tell you that you “cant” be showing yet because in their mind, the baby is still teeny teeny tiny. However, when you look at ultrasounds you see the amount of fluid that has to build up to accommodate for the baby.

Many peoples tummys go solid and start showing from 10 weeks and it is perfectly normal. I started showing by 12. Although the baby or placenta isnt large by this point the amount of fluid etc is. This is probably what caused the pain, because your belly is starting to grow so the ligaments are stretching!.

You might put on a couple of pounds too. I think your midwife was rude to say all this to you. Only 7 weeks from now, your baby could survive if it was born. So you are quite far along, putting on a little weight would be normal at this stage!!
