chronic abdominal pain children
Hysterectomy Question?
I am 24 years old. When I was 16 I was diagnosed with endometriosis. This past week I had to go to the ER because I was having severe pelvic/abdominal pain. I was diagnosed with PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) They said I have had this infection for 6-8 months, when I just thought it was endometriosis pain. They also said I have a 90 % chance of being infertile. My Dr wants me to have a hysterectomy. I of couse am nervous about the idea because I am only 24 and have no children. I have done some reasearch online and it pretty much says w/out the hysterectomy I will have chronic pelvic pain for the rest of my life. Does anyone know if this is true? Anyone went through something like this before. I am just trying to get all the info from all the sources I can before deciding to have this life altering surgery. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks for taking the time to read this!
I’m sorry to read you have such serious gyn problems at your young age. The best people to talk this over with are the professionals, and they are really the only people who can advise you well. I can tell you the information they have given you is true, as unpleasant as it is. I would suggest you consider seeking a second opinion, and discuss all your concerns and treatment options with a GYN physician, preferably one who specializes in treating PID and endometriosis. It may be there are some other options for you to consider, or it may be that a hysterectomy is your best option. If you do have one, it doesn’t necessarily mean the end of the world, only that you will not have children. But having children is already quite possibly not in your future anyway, so there is no point to suffering needlessly. If and when you find the person you want to spend your life with, you can and should consider adoption to create your family. In spite of what you might think, some children grow in your heart and some under it, but in the end you love both equally the same. I urge you to speak with your doctor honestly, the way you did here, and then make your decisions. Good luck, however things turn out.
