What is the cause of this stomach pain?

My 55 year old father has had lower back on the right side and has been in a lot of pain the past 3 days. Last night, he suddenly has “heartburn”. He said he didn’t sleep well all night because the food he previously ate 2 hours before started to backup on him. He has been burping all day, and has had chest/stomach pains all day, but feels better when he burps. He also went #2 twice today. Is this associated with the back pain? What can we do? Thanks for all your help everyone!

If he still has his gallbladder, he could be having gallbladder problems. He could also be having reflux and taking an antacid regularly might help. Best advice would be for him to call his doctor and talk with him about his symptoms and let the doctor decide what is going on. Taking some tylenol regularly would also help with his back pain until he can figure out what is going on. You can go to WebMd.com and type in gallbladder disease and also reflux and read up on both of these and see if his symptoms match.
