Fat density lesion adjacent to hepatic flexure – Cancer?
My son aged 40 is having abdominal acute pain for the past one week. Ultrasound showed normal results. Contrast CT shows “A well defined fat density lesion of size 3.4 x 2.1 cm is seen adjacent to the hepatic flexure in the subhepatic location AND a smal hyperdensity within the lesion on the plain images AND on contrast administration, a minimal enhancement is noted.” The Doctors have prescribed an antibiotic for 5 days. Since the patient’s father is a cancer survivor, is it necessary to suspect cancer and go in for endoscopy and biopsy test?
Unless the father had a rare hereditary cancer there is no reason to suspect cancer and if it were cancer they would know it was not a fat density. He may still need surgery however.
