CASE #1
The patient is complaining of epigastric pain and denies a history of a gastric ulcer. She has a scar in the umbilical region from a laparotomy for acute hypogastric pain from an ectopic pregnancy last year. On examination there is some questionable hepatomegaly with tenderness in that area; however, a CBC shows a normal erythrocyte count with a slight elevation of the leukocyte count, an essentially normal differential, and adequate thrombocytes. An abnormal sonogram and x-rays, with radiology consult, will be done to rule out cholelithiasis.
