What causes someone to wake up from sleeping and feel a burning stomach pain?
Most likely is reflux esophagitis (“GERD”) where stomach contents tend to leak up into the sensitive gullet (esophagus- which gets burned) owing to the effect of gravity and your reclined position.

The best and simplest Rx is to chock up the head of your bed by 9″.
Lots of folks try sleeping on extra pillows instead, but it isn’t nearly as effective as tilting the whole bed.
