abdominal pain second trimester
Fever when Pregnant?
I am 22 weeks pregnant and have been experiencing upper abdominal stomach pains that keep me awake from around 1-3am, every morning. The pains are always above my belly button, just around my stomach. I put it down to just normal growing pains, as they are currently a pain I can put up with, but I am just worried my baby maybe struggling for some reason or I my have a bateria infection ? ? Then, just yesterday, I had a scary experience where I had a feverish wave come over my body for about 10mins. My palms & forehead were dripping in moisture/sweat and I felt like being sick. I had a drink of water to relieve the pain, and it eventually went away with some deep breathing. Has anybody experienced regular, upper abdominal pains and or fever like symptoms whilst being in there second trimester ? Many thanks for your response in advance. KM
Do you have any issues with blood sugar? That kind of “fever wave” is a lot like what happens to me when my blood sugar drops too low (hypoglycemia). Eating something or drinking juice usually helps.
It’s worthwhile to get a cheap thermometer at your local pharmacy…when I have the hypoglycemia attacks, I’ve checked my fever and even though I feel like I’m standing on the center of the sun, my actual body temperature has not gone up. You should determine if that is happening with you.
I would call your OB’s office and ask them if they think there is something unusual.
At this stage, fever is problematic, but not deathly so for the baby the way it was during the first trimester.
Depending on whether or not you regularly feel the baby, you can also use that information to help you decide if things are feeling abnormal. Is he/she moving less than normal, or at all? I know some women don’t feel it until 25/26 weeks, and at 22 it was still kind of vague, but that’s the sort of thing that reassured me.
Finally, I caved and bought a fetal heart monitor on amazon for about 100 and I use it every day to check my baby’s heartbeat. It’s the world’s most reassuring thing to hear, especially when I’ve had a day where I experienced hypoglycemia or a lot of puking (I also have hyperemesis–puking through the whole pregnancy) or whatever.
