upper abdominal pain burning

I have abdominal pain in the upper right/center part of the stomach area, Dr. says it may be gallstones…?

Symptoms: About an hour after eating, sharp burning pain and vomiting sometimes. Also, diarrhea (very bad) where I have to run to the bathroom. Sweating bullets and one of these two symptoms occurs.

I went to the Dr and he says it “may” be gallstones or an ulcer, but he wants a CT scan. Im scared to do this scan because of the radiation.

Is there any way to know if its gall stones or an ulcer and are there any home treatments I can do to deal with the pain?

A CT scan has only low levels of radiation. It’s when you have repeated scans and x-rays that you are at a greater risk for having negative consequences from a CT scan.

This test is one of the more reliable ways of determining if, indeed, you do have gallstones. If not, you can avoid an unnecessary exploratory surgery and the possible complications of that by having the scan.

With bleeding ulcers you may notice a coffee ground appearance to any emesis you have, or you may see old dark colored blood in your stools. Early ulcers more often cause a heartburn feeling instead of the sewats and chills and diarrhea. To me, this sounds like gallstones. It is very much better to have it taken care of now while it’s not causing incapacitation or significant weight loss instead of waiting till you’re really sick and end up staying in the hospital for a longer time with an NG tube and drains and maybe even an indwelling catheter.
